Shoppers are racing to Home Bargains for the Christmas buy, where it has been spotted on shelves for £9.99.

But while many are desperate to get their hands on the advent calendar, which is also selling on eBay for £16.99, other shoppers were outraged by the price.

One shopper posted a picture of the advent calendar to the popular New Food Spotter UK Facebook page.

Commenting on the post, another said: “A tenner for 24 bags of crisps!? Are you having a laugh?”

One user pointed out that it would be cheaper to buy regular Walkers multipacks.

They joked: “Think I’ll just buy a couple of multi packs and close my eyes when picking one each day.”

Variety multipacks of Walkers Classic are on sale in several UK supermarkets for less than the advent calendar.

You get 20 packets of crisps per pack, and they’re currently on sale for £4.85 in Tesco and £4.25 in Iceland.

If you bought two multipacks, you would get 40 bags of crisps – almost double the amount in the calendar and for a lower price.

Quirky advent calendars have grown in popularity in recent years.

Retailers including Boots and Sephora are offering beauty advent calendars, with a range of makeup and beauty products.

Aldi has even recently launched its own budget version for £19.99.

M&S is also offering a version of the viral product, which shoppers can get for £60 once they spend £35 or more on clothing, home and beauty.

The retailer says it’s worth £330 and contains 25 products, with eight of them full-sized.

Other festive supermarket buys

Separately, supermarkets have been slashing the price of their Christmas chocolates as households stock up early ahead of the big day.

Tesco is selling tubs of popular Quality Street for £6, which is cheaper by £1 compared with many retailers.

Shoppers can also get a 550g tub from Aldi for as little as £4.42.

Meanwhile, Lidl is selling the same tub for just £4.39.

Tesco has also slashed the price of posh Guylian chocolates to £7.50 – half the price of Amazon which is selling them for £14.99.
