Halloween is only three weeks away. To celebrate the spooky season in style, the Johannesburg Zoo is getting all ghouled up.
After their successful Easter event back in April, the zoo is following up with their annual Halloween Experience this month, where there will be plenty of “mystery and magic” to be had.
“Get ready for a night of thrills!” proclaims a recent Instagram post shared by the City of Joburg’s official municipality account.
HALLOWEEN EXPERIENCE: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
The spook-tacular event will take place at the zoo’s premises at the corner of Jan Smuts Avenue and Upper Park Drive in Parkview, Johannesburg.
It will start at 17:00 and end at 21:00 on Saturday, 31 October 2025.
Secure parking is available at Zoo Parkade, Zoo Lake and Upper Park Drive.
To celebrate the occasion, you’re also encouraged to dress up in your most fang-tastic Halloween-themed costumes. Think along the lines of your favourite slasher flicks à la A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th or – you guessed it! – Halloween.
Or, do you want to put a little thrill in your ‘fit? Then you can’t go wrong with a zombie look straight out of Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
FAMILY-FRIENDLY TRICKS AND TREATS
The Johannesburg Zoo promises a night of “trick-or-treat fun, live entertainment and spooky themed zones.”
Indeed, you and your kids can partake in trick-or-treat trails, explore the haunted house, be entertained by the stilt walkers or settle in for a scary movie marathon, among other cool activities.
There will also be costume contests, so get creative with your Halloween attire to win some epic prizes.
BE A PART OF THE HALLOWEEN EXPERIENCE
Halloween has become increasingly popular in South Africa. So, it’s a no-brainer (zombie pun intended) to spend the occasion at Jozi’s beloved zoo.
Whether you’re a Joburger or visiting the city, be sure to include this event in your itinerary. After all, it sounds like a frightfully fun night to remember.
Tickets cost R132 for adults; for pensioners and children aged three to 12, it will cost R74. These are available to purchase from www.webtickets.co.za.
