Is life in a nudist camp ‘one big orgy’? The naked village where ‘sex vibes are everywhere’… but romps have strict rules

THE proud naked residents of Indian Hills are used to the same old jokes – and no shortage of questions about sex.

But now, letting the cameras in for a rare insight into life in a nudist village, they reveal there are very specific rules for racy hook-ups… even if there’s a “sexual vibe everywhere” at night.

Owner Tim Kraemer – who runs the community fully nude alongside his mum, dad and sister – insists swingers and perverts hoping to pay a visit are quickly shown the door.

Known as Naked Jesus to the open-minded residents, Tim, 45, says he is working hard to change the stigma surrounding naturism.

He says: “Why the hell do we wear clothes?

“Being naked is nothing once you’re part of the community, it’s not a sexual thing at all.

“Sexual activity of any kind needs to happen behind closed doors and not in community spaces.

“There are no group orgies, that’s one of the big myths.

“It’s natural to connect nudity and sex but that doesn’t happen outdoors, we have firm rules about that.

“There is no pressure to be naked, but you get a lot more stares if you’re wearing clothes – although most people wear sunglasses so you can’t really tell where they’re looking.

“Younger men’s bodies tend to tell other stories, so we remind them to carry towels to block the obvious sexual signs.”

The community is the focus of an extraordinary new documentary launching on YouTube called Human: Naked and Free.

Presenter Ben Zand, who nervously strips off eventually, meets many of the camp’s colourful residents – and some admit that racy assumptions about nudist communes aren’t always too far off the mark.

Chatting breezily at a naked barbecue, one admits there is plenty of sexual activity.

“Last night was amazing,” he grins. “There was a sexual vibe everywhere, it was crazy, it was nuts.

“I enjoyed last night so much, I met 45 people, I couldn’t even tell you their names.

“It wasn’t an orgy in the pool, you can’t do anything sexual in the pool area, you have to leave to do that but the sexual vibe was there.

“I’m not saying that everybody got laid last night, but yeah.”

Bare necessities

Tim worked as a school teacher for 15 years before he moved to the campsite in Louisiana eight years ago with his wife Beth and their three teenage children in order to fully embrace the unusual lifestyle his parents already enjoyed.

Tim’s parents, Hilda and Selves, first dipped their toes into nudism in secret, sneaking off to resorts without telling Tim and his sister Stephanie.

But when they found out, they asked to join and realised they loved the lifestyle too.

Hilda and Selves took over the park when its founder, an eccentric elderly magician nicknamed the Professor, died.

Now siblings Tim and Stephanie are determined to entice newcomers to embrace the fun side of nudism by joining events like their naked yoga classes, naked karaoke nights, naked Country and Western weekends and even naked Halloween-themed spooky walks.

Non-negotiables

A full-length waiver is handed to all guests when they arrive at the front desk clearly explaining the non-negotiable ground rules.

Full nudity is optional anywhere in the park, but required near the pool area.

Guests must carry a towel and use it to prevent sitting with bare skin on any communal surface.

And the most important rule of all is no excessive drunkenness, no drug use, no photography, no comments on other people’s bodies and absolutely no sexual behaviour in public.

Tim added: “We hate the nudist jokes, because yes, they’re funny jokes, but they also reinforce the stigmas that are not true.

“The whole ‘the most popular man in the nudist park is the one who can carry six doughnuts and two cups of coffee at once.’

“Uh, no he’s not. He’s probably going to be self-conscious, just like any other person.”

Another long term resident, Pete, who has lived there for 13 years after begging his wife to move for 30 years, chats to Ben while they share a naked ride on a pedalo around the lake.

He says: “The most common misconception is everybody thinks it’s one big orgy.

“You can let sex be part of it – I do it four times a week.”

Owner Tim reveals that not everyone is blissfully happy.

There have been instances in which an estranged spouse has discovered their partner’s proclivity for nudism, then used it against them in custody court.

Non-negotiable ground rules:

Must be naked by the pool

Carry a towel

No excessive drunkenness or drug use

No photography

No unwanted comments

No sexual behaviour

Other visitors to the adults-only site are school teachers and fear their extracurricular interests will be deemed predatory.

But Ben also meets a retired couple called Sandra and Josh who live full time at the 55-acre resort.

He tells them: “It feels awkward that I have clothes on and you don’t.”

“Being naked is relaxing,” replies Sandra.

“When we come in those gates it’s like a weight is gone. The body is only sexual when you choose to be sexual with that special person. It’s just a shell.

“I used to always be very self conscious but here I don’t care, I feel great about it.

“Nobody remarks on it.”

Her husband Josh tries to encourage Ben to join them: “Take your shirt off first, go down to your underwear and once you’re there what’s the point?”

Long-term resident Carol also tells Ben: “Some aspects are sexual but it’s also about accepting yourself.

“My husband brought me here. One of the things about nudity, it puts everyone on the same playing field.

“It’s pretty hard to be mean to somebody when you’re naked.

“The people are unbelievable, it’s about a sense of belonging. It’s an incredible place, it’s magical, the nudity is just an added benefit.”

But Ben was still left feeling uncomfortable with all the flesh on show.

And even when Tim persuaded him to join his daily yoga session, Ben kept his pants on, and said: “This feels very exposing, this is challenging my sense of shame, there’s a lot I don’t want the camera to see.

“I’m a semi-confident dude but getting your willy out in front of loads of random people is fine for a few seconds but when I think about it it feels so awkward.

“Everyone is here for a reason, whether that’s because you’re grieving your husband, you had a job that was killing you.

“A lot of people have had a tragedy and want to live life.

“This offers people something and it shows just how much everyone needs a space to be themselves – and sometimes that means getting your penis out.”
