WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE BOOK?
Eben Etzebeth’s autobiography, Unlocked, is said to offer a personal and frank account of his professional rugby career and life.
The book covers:
- His personal journey: It traces his life from his “humble beginnings” in Goodwood, a Cape Town suburb, through his early club career, and his eventual rise to a hard-won place in the South African squad. He reflects on his aspirations and the challenges he has overcome, including a period in high school when he couldn’t even make the A team.
- Rugby career and success: It details his time as a towering lock, his 13 years and 131 caps in the green and gold, and his role as a key part of the Springbok team’s successful run, which includes two consecutive World Cups. It aims to uncover the key factors driving his extraordinary success and how he stays focused both on and off the pitch.
- Wider context of the sport: The book delves into aspects beyond the matches, such as his interest in strategy and coaching, transformation and leadership, and the role of the Springboks in uniting South Africa.
- Controversy and relationships: Etzebeth provides insight into his close bond with teammate Siya Kolisi, as well as his opponents. The book also addresses the “Langebaan incident” from 2019.
