Kaizer Chiefs next coach: Latest on Pitso Mosimane

Kaizer Chiefs are in the market for a new head coach having recently parted ways with Tunisian Nasreddine Nabi.

Tantalisingly, Pitso Mosimane is unemployed and no doubt looking for his next ‘big project’.

Cedric Kaze and Ben Youssef have been appointed on an interim basis as co-coaches of the Soweto giants.

However, both men are not guaranteed a future at Kaizer Chiefs, especially if a new full-time coach is appointed.

After being questioned over his future – as to whether or not Youssef and his contracts will be terminated following Nabi’s departure – Kaze said: “I believe that’s a question that should be directed to the management.

“At the moment, we are the coaches of Kaizer Chiefs until further notice, or until something else is decided by the management. So, I’m pretty sure they’ll let everyone know.”

Search continues

Amakhosi’s search for a new head coach on a long-term basis continues.

Names such as Mosimane, Benni McCarthy, Rulani Mokwena and a number of European coaches have been linked with Kaizer Chiefs.

Some more likely, others more fanciful, than others …

Mosimane is currently unemployed, which is somewhat surprising given his reputation and past record as a coach.

‘Jingles’ has coached some of the biggest teams in Africa, including the likes of Egyptian giants Al Ahly, Mamelodi Sundowns as well as the now-defunct SuperSport United.

Additionally, he has taken charge of Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia, Al Abham Al-Wahda and Esteghlal FC in the Middle East.

Mosimane won two CAF Champions League titles with Al Ahly and one with Mamelodi Sundowns in 2016.

He also led the Red Devils to two third-place finishes at the FIFA Club World Cup – the highest finish by any African team in history.

His CV also shows he won five PSL titles with the Brazilians and steered Al Ahli back into top-flight football in Saudi Arabia.

Prospective clubs

There’s little question he offers tremendous experience and wisdom to any prospective club.

This may well be a golden opportunity for Kaizer Chiefs to launch a bid for Mosimane.

He is available right now and is looking for a big project – and big projects in South Africa don’t come any greater than attempting to return Kaizer Chiefs to their glory years.

Take note, Amakhosi, pay him whatever he wants!

At the time of publishing, neither Kaizer Chiefs nor Pitso Mosimane have commented on the reported links.
