South Africa joins EU Global Gateway Forum to boost partnerships

President Cyril Ramaphosa will travel to Brussels, Belgium, on 9 and 10 October 2025 to attend the European Union (EU) Global Gateway Forum.

The European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen, extended an invitation to Ramaphosa to attend the event.

The invitation follows their recent meeting at the United Nations General Assembly in New York and the eighth South Africa–EU Summit in March 2025.

The forum aims to strengthen international partnerships between governments, the private sector, and civil society across key global regions.

FORUM FOCUSES ON BUILDING SMART AND CLEAN CONNECTIONS

The Global Gateway Forum will focus on the EU’s international investment strategy.

The forum promotes smart, clean, and secure connections in the digital, energy, and transport sectors.

Moreover, the discussions will explore ways to create sustainable infrastructure and expand trade opportunities for developing economies.

Leaders from Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe, and the African Union will participate in the event.

SOUTH AFRICAN DELEGATION TO STRENGTHEN INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS

A strong South African business delegation will accompany the president to boost international partnerships and attract investment opportunities.

International Relations and Cooperation Minister Ronald Lamola, Science and Innovation Minister Blade Nzimande, Higher Education Deputy Minister Buti Manamela, and Communications and Digital Technologies Minister Solly Malatsi will join Ramaphosa’s delegation.

Additionally, the presidency says the visit demonstrates South Africa’s commitment to deepening global cooperation and driving sustainable development.
