Synagogue terrorist called 999 and said ‘I have killed two Jews in name of Islamic State’ after ploughing car into crowd

THE MANCHESTER synagogue killer made a 999 call after his attack, saying: “I have killed two Jews in the name of the Islamic State.”

Terrorist Jihad al-Shamie, 35, told a police operator he was responsible for the attack on the Heaton Park Synagogue last Thursday morning.

The Sun Online can reveal how Al-Shamie made the 999 call immediately after driving into worshippers at the synagogue gates and then stabbing at least two people.

His claim of responsibility and clearly defined motive expressed to the operator prompted counter-terror police to swiftly declare the attack on the synagogue as a terrorist incident.

Despite claiming he was acting on behalf of Islamic State, police and MI5 have been unable to establish any links between al-Shamie and the terror group or other proscribed organisations.

Security chiefs believe Al-Shamie was a “lone wolf” who carried out the atrocity on his own after being inspired by Islamic terrorism.

The terrorist was shot dead by armed police as he had tried to break into the temple armed with a knife.

Two Jewish heroes Melvin Cravitz, 66, and Adrian Daulby, 53, died in the attack as they tried to stop al-Shamie.

Security guard Mr Daulby suffered fatal gunshot wounds fired by police at al-Shamie as he stood behind the front door of the synagogue with others.

Mr Cravitz was among a group of people who tried to prevent Al-Shamie from storming the synagogue.

Worshipper Yoni Finlay was also shot by the police bullet which killed Mr Daulby and is one of three people recovering in hospital from serious injuries.

Witnesses told how al-Shamie yelled “This is what you’re going to get for killing our children,” in an apparent reference to the Gaza war as he attempted to break into the building armed with a knife.

“But counter-terror police continue to investigate al-Shamie’s background to establish what “tipped him over the edge.”

Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable Sir Stephen Watson says “no stone is being left unturned” by the investigation into the attack and every available resource was being used to ensure “we understand precisely what happened.”

Six people – believed to be associates of Al-Shamie’s – have been arrested under terrorism laws to assess whether they had any knowledge about his attack plans.

Two of the suspects – a man and woman – were released without charge and the other four remain in custody.

Al-Shamie was not known to counter-terror police or the intelligence services at the time of his car and knife attack.

But he was on police bail and being investigated over an allegation of rape.

Al-Shamie has three young children – aged three and under – with a 32-year-old wife.

She left him taking their children with her when their marriage collapsed around six months ago.

Al-Shamie was also married to a second woman, a white British woman 10 years older than him who converted to Islam four years ago.

The NHS worker married Al-Shamie around a year ago in secret and only told her family about the Islamic wedding after the Synagogue attack.

Pot-smoking Al-Shamie was born in Syria and came to Britain as a young child with his family before becoming a British citizen in 2006.

Neighbours told how he became radicalised during Covid and began wearing robes and preaching the Quran to local children.

According to The Guardian, one neighbour said she reported Al-Shamie over concerns about his behaviour but it has not been confirmed.
