Sizwe Dhlomo and team debate Zulzi’s delivery of lobola cows

Sizwe Dhlomo recently discovered that grocery delivery app Zulzi has expanded its services to include the delivery of lobola cows.
This revelation sparked a lively discussion among the team about whether such a move is culturally appropriate, as well as how traditional lobola practices are evolving in modern times, such as payments now being made via EFT.
Commenting on the shift, Dhlomo suggested that the trend might vary by region.
“That might be because I’m from KZN,” he said. “There are rural areas there and almost everybody has a cow.”
Mbali Thethani quickly countered, saying, “Nobody has cows in Joburg.”
Dhlomo then posed the question, “Is this even culturally appropriate?”
Mpho Maboi weighed in, arguing that many cultural practices have already modernised.
“For instance, when you’re paying lobola, nobody goes there with physical cash anymore. Now it’s like an EFT process because I don’t want to get jacked. If people know that a certain family will be receiving lobola on a specific day, they’ll be there,” she said, adding that culture is constantly evolving.
