Dashcam footage caught Darren Marshall, 48, coming off the M40 to Handy Cross roundabout near High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.
The horrifying video shows Mr Marshall speeding along the motorway and overtaking several vehicles in the build up to the incident.
The car then races passed other motorists as they can be see slowing down in the approach to the traffic lighted roundabout.
The reckless driver weaves through other vehicles and crosses through lanes at high speed, while other drivers continue to slow down.
As the cars draw to a halt, Mr Marshall, from Worthing, West Sussex, proceeds to drive through the red lights and smash into another vehicle.
The driver doesn’t appear to make any effort to slow down or pause to check for oncoming traffic before joining onto the roundabout.
Moments after running the red light, Mr Marshall ploughs into a white four by four vehicle.
A plume of dust surrounded the cars as they both came to a sudden standstill.
Nearby vehicles also quickly stopped.
The victims who were in the car tragically suffered serious injuries.
Following this heart-stopping moment which occurred on May 19, 2023, Marshall has since been given an eight year driving ban.
He was sentenced at Aylesbury Crown Court after admitting causing serious injuries by dangerous driving.
He was also given a suspended prison sentence for dangerous driving and will need to take an enhanced test at the end of his disqualification.
However, High Wycombe locals have been quick to share their disapproval towards the court’s conclusion.
Commenting in a local paper, one resident wrote: “How someone can look at this clip and believe that this person deserves to ever hold a licence again is beyond me.”
Another angered local added: “Unbelievable.”
A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: “This incident is a stark reminder of how reckless behaviour behind the wheel can change lives in an instant.
“Please, drive safely and think of others on the road.”
