Most complained about TV shows of past five years named as worst offender draws more than 92,000 grumbles from viewers


GOOD Morning Britain has had more Ofcom complaints over the past five years than any other TV programme. 

The ITV breakfast show had 91,890 grumbles from 2021 to 2025 — with more than half related to just one episode.

That was the day host Piers Morgan cast doubts on Prince Harry and Meghan’s claims in their interview with Oprah Winfrey

This episode got 57,973 complaints, though Ofcom later said no broadcasting rules were broken. 

In second place was ITV2’s Love Island, with 66,252 complaints over the same period. 

Its episode on August 6, 2021, saw 24,763 viewers complain about contestant Faye Winters’ tirade at her love interest Teddy Soares

Viewers slammed show producers for not stepping in.

However Ofcom said the scenes were what viewers expected. 

The study, by Aura Print, revealed ITV’s Emmerdale was the most complained about soap, with 2,405 moans in total.

Coronation Street was the second worst, with 1,348 complaints. 

ITV had the most complaints of any channel, with 210,000 over five years.

A TV insider said: “Everything from soaps to dating shows to reality TV shows can prompt a surprising backlash.”
