Iconic US fast food chain is set to rival McDonald’s with free toy offer as it expands in UK

A HUGE US fast food chain is offering free toys with its new range of children’s meals as it prepares to take on McDonald’s.

The colourful new toys, released ahead of Halloween, are being seen as a rival to the gifts handed out with Maccy D’s popular Happy Meals.

The colourful toys are now available at Wendy’s, which recently announced it is expanding its operations in the UK.

As previously reported in The Sun, Wendy’s revealed it will be opening new restaurants in Plymouth – the first Wendy’s restaurant in the South West – as well as Nottingham and Basildon.

The openings will bring the total number of Wendy’s restaurants in the UK up to 48.

The Plymouth site will open in the city’s Drake Circus shopping centre and will feature self-order kiosks.

It will create roughly 40 new jobs.

The fast food chain is known for its high quality food and customer favourites such as the Spicy Chicken Sandwich, the Baconator and its Frosty desserts.

In the run up to Halloween, the US fast food chain has now launched its own version in the UK of the Happy Meal.

Frosty Frights Kids’ Meals cost just £3.99 each and feature a children’s meal and a free toy to collect.

The Frosty Frights toys are all inspired by Wendy’s Frosty drink.

There are six different toys to collect, including The Yummy, Purrma Frost, Captain Coldsnap and Chilly Gilly.

Fast food fans online have already shared their excitement over news of the Frosty Frights.

‘They are cute’

Writing on Instagram, one said: “Oh my goodness. These are cute.”

Another asked: “Are these available now?”

A third person posted; “Anything for us big kids?”

A fourth person wrote: “I know where I’m going this week.”

From today, October 7, the fast food chain has also launched two more menu additions.

They include the Grilled Cheese Cheeseburger, which features a beef quarter pounder, topped with sweet caramelised onions, creamy mayo and a melty cheese slice.

Michael Clarke, Wendy’s managing director for Europe, said the shake-up is “one of our most exciting UK menu launches yet”.

“These new items are bold, craveable, and unmistakably Wendy’s,” he added.

Wendy’s has already cemented its status as a fast food favourite in the US, with more than 5,-00 restaurants Stateside.

The brand previously tried to expand into the UK in the 1980s and early 2000s but failed at the time.

It then returned to the UK in 2021 and has had much more success since.
