Solskjaer’s visit comes just weeks after he was sacked by Turkish side Besiktas following a disappointing seven-month spell in charge.
During his time in Turkey, he oversaw the club’s early exit from the Europa Conference League after a 2-1 aggregate defeat to Swiss side Lausanne-Sport, who are owned by Ineos.
Since his dismissal in August, the Norwegian has returned to England and has been seen at Ipswich matches before.
He previously attended the Tractor Boys’ 5-0 win over Sheffield United, and now he’s returned to cheer them on in their derby day showdown.
The ManchesterEveningNews confirmed Solskjaer was at Portman Road specifically to support Ipswich boss McKenna.
The pair worked together closely at Manchester United, with McKenna serving as Solskjaer’s assistant during his time in charge at Old Trafford.
McKenna had initially been promoted to the first-team coaching staff under Jose Mourinho and stayed on when Solskjaer took over in 2018.
He left United soon after Solskjaer’s sacking in 2021 to take the top job at Ipswich.

Since then, McKenna has impressed in the dugout, guiding Ipswich from League One to the Premier League with two straight promotions.
However, Ipswich were relegated after just one season back in the top flight and are now aiming to bounce back again under McKenna’s leadership.
Solskjaer has spoken highly of his former assistant, previously describing him as one of the most detailed and analytical coaches he’s worked with.
The ex-United striker is also among the names being linked with a potential return to Old Trafford if there were to sack Ruben Amorim.
