‘I’ve had a torrid time off the table’ – Former snooker world champion Kyren Wilson reveals wife’s health battle

KYREN WILSON has lifted the lid on his wife’s health battle, revealing he’s had a “torrid time off the table.”

Wilson, 33, is one of the top stars in snooker and is currently ranked 2nd in the world.

The ace has 10 ranking tournament wins to his name and stormed to victory at the World Championship last year.

But Wilson has recently suffered several shock defeats after his form dipped this year.

He was dumped out fairly early in the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters, the Wuhan Open and the English Open.

At the British Open, Wilson was also sent packing by teen Stan Moody.

And his decline appeared to come out of nowhere after victory at the Shanghai Masters.

Wilson is now looking to defend his title at the Xi’an Grand Prix, beating Haris Tahir in his opening match.

But the star has now revealed that he has been suffering away from the table.

Wilson admitted that wife Sophie, who he married in 2016 after meeting in 2009, has been very ill for the past six weeks.

He did not say what exactly was wrong, but added that the mother of his two children – Finley and Baily – was forced to undergo surgery while he was playing in Wuhan in August.

Wilson is now hopeful that Sophie, who previously suffered a stroke, is on the full road to recovery.

And he hopes his snooker improves as a result, saying: “I’ve had a bit of a torrid time off the table.

“My wife has been very poorly so I’ve not really played snooker for the best part of four or five weeks now.

“I think she’s coming up to about six weeks of recovery tomorrow, so I feel like my snooker is slowly coming back.

“I’ve started to put a bit more time in, I can focus a bit more on my game. As a result, hopefully you start seeing the results that you’ve been used to.

“It was a last-minute decision to come out to China. It kind of did my head in a little bit – it’s not nice knowing that someone is going to be on the operating table while you’re going to hit some snooker balls around.

“But that’s the sort of sacrifice that me and my family are willing to make to be successful at this game.

“Sometimes you’ve just got to make sure that your head is clear and thankfully now I feel like I’m getting there.”
