Exploring Cape Town from above

If you’re exploring Cape Town and would like to see it from a different angle, why not take the aerial route?

While you can hike or drive to get to new vantage points, taking to the air is another way.

Let’s see how you can view the Mother City from above and take a few breathtaking photographs while you’re at it!

Helicopter Tours

Several helicopter tours are available that can take you around Cape Town. While the flight is approximately just under 20 minutes, you will get a beautiful bird’s eye view of the city, Table Mountain, the coastline, and all the surroundings.

But if you need more, there are various Helicopter rides you can choose that will take you around the Cape Peninsula, Robben Island, and more. Be sure to research and learn more about all the options available, the locations, and how to make bookings.

Cape Town Tandem Paragliding

If you’re walking around Cape Town, you may have noticed a few flying people, or more accurately, paragliders! You can do tandem paragliding from Lions Head and Signal Hill. The best part is that you don’t need prior experience, just the ability to follow instructions.

The paragliding session typically depends on the weather conditions and the amount of wind available to keep you in the air longer. Nonetheless, this is a fun and freeing way to really get up in the air to see the Mother City! It’s ideal for those seeking a bit more of a thrill and adventure. We’ll leave it to you to figure out how to take photographs from up there!

Table Mountain Aerial Cableway

If you prefer to be inside something while up in the air, the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway is another great option. Here you can be safely suspended, if only for a few minutes, between the ground and Table Mountain and just pause to take it all in.

As you ascend the mountain, the cable car also rotates, which will give you a unique vantage point as the city unfolds before your eyes. The summit is 3,500 feet, and the journey sadly only lasts around five minutes, but it will be worth it!
