‘I’d rather Ronnie O’Sullivan win eight’ – Stephen Hendry reveals snooker world record he’s desperate not to lose

STEPHEN HENDRY admits he’d “rather Ronnie O’Sullivan win eight” World Championships after revealing the one snooker record he’s desperate to not lose.

Scottish icon Hendry, 56, has made history three times in snooker, with two of them coming at the Crucible.

The ace’s first record saw him become the youngest-ever winner of the World Championship in 1990.

He famously beat the legendary Jimmy White 18-12 at the age of 21, and the record still holds to this day.

Hendry then won five more world titles in the next six years.

And he lifted a record seventh championship in 1999.

Meanwhile, Hendry set a third record in 1994 at the UK Championship, where he beat Ken Doherty in the final.

Hendry won that match 10-5 while also netting a record SEVEN centuries.

Modern-day hero O’Sullivan has since gone on to match Hendry’s record of seven World Championships.

He has also overtaken the Scot’s previous record of 36 ranking titles, with the Rocket now boasting 41.

But Hendry has revealed he doesn’t mind if O’Sullivan goes out alone with an eighth world title.

That’s because he’d rather cling on to the record of being the youngest-ever world champion at the age of 21.

Hendry told the World Snooker Tour podcast: “I’ve got three records which I’m really proud of.

“Obviously, the seventh, the youngest winner and seven centuries in a final.

“(Which would I keep?) I’d rather have Ronnie win eight, I think.

“You’re going to have to be special to win it before 21. Si Jiahui had a chance a couple of years ago, but lost to Luca Brecel.

“I was getting plenty of digs when it looked like he was going to beat Luca.

“I don’t know what it is, but people seem to love seeing my records getting broken.”

Hendry jokingly added: “Do I put it out there that I’m miserable?”
