About the Fire Fighter Internship Programme 2025
Midvaal Local Municipality is offering 12 Fire Fighter Internship positions aimed at providing practical experience and skill development for young South Africans interested in fire and rescue services. Successful candidates will be appointed on a three-year contract and will receive a monthly stipend of R8,786.58 (R105,439.00 per annum).
Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
- Firefighter 1 & 2, Hazmat Awareness and Operations (or equivalent).
- First Aid Level 3 or Basic Ambulance Course.
- Code C Driver’s License.
- Medically and physically fit to perform operational duties.
- Ability to swim.
- Must not suffer from phobias (e.g., claustrophobia, acrophobia).
- Experience or knowledge of fire and rescue work will be an added advantage.
- Hardworking, self-disciplined, and reliable.
- Minimum of 3 months internship experience will be advantageous.
Note: Applicants from the Sedibeng Region will be given preference.
Duties
Successful interns will be expected to:
- Respond to daily tasks and orders from the Station Officer.
- Test and check vehicles and firefighting equipment.
- Clean and maintain fire vehicles and equipment.
- Report malfunctions to the officer on duty.
- Assist in fire suppression operations under supervision.
- Fight grass, wildland, and structural fires.
- Participate in rescue operations.
- Protect property and ensure safety on fire scenes.
- Perform control room duties as required.
- Carry out any additional tasks as instructed by superiors.
Remuneration
- Salary: R8,786.58 per month (R105,439.00 per annum)
- Contract Duration: 3 Years
- Employment Equity: Preference will be given to suitably qualified candidates in line with Employment Equity targets.
