In an ouch! moment, hundreds of South Africans were left disappointed as Summer Walker’s In The City concert in Pretoria ended abruptly.
The R&B singer was brought to South Africa by Steyn Entertainment for Rocking the Daisies (3–5 October) and the In the City concert in Joburg on 5 October.
However, at the In the City concert, things took a wild turn when Summer Walker’s set was abruptly cut short in front of fans at Pretoria’s SunBet Arena.
Reports on social media indicate that the singer performed for only 30 minutes, instead of the scheduled one-hour set.
What really went wrong?…Summer Walker herself addressed her fans in a video, explaining the chaos with regard to the event organizers, as she claims…
I got kicked off the stage
“South Africa, I am so so so sorry. I literally don’t understand what happened, I got kicked off the stage.”
Unprofessional
She described the entire situation as “really unprofessional,” adding, “they [event organizer] changed my time 3 times, and when I got on stage, I’m thinking I’m about to do my full set, they yelling in my ear to cut my whole entire set halfway.”
I was prepared
Walker revealed her disappointment, saying, “I didn’t even get to get down and get out in the crowd like I usually do because they telling me to hurry up. So we wrap it up. That wasn’t my intention, I was prepared to do my full hour.”
Hurry up and get off!
She continued, “The police, the fire marshal, the promoter, they were like ‘we’re gonna get fined if you don’t hurry up and get off…’ I get off the stage.”
They could have just paid the fine
But in her view, “they could have just paid the fine. They know that you guys spent your hard-earned money, your time, y’all drove.”
They kicked yo’girl off
Walker clarified her side, stating, “I was on time, I was dressed, I was ready… they kicked yo’ girl off and I really can’t do anything about that.”
They didn’t give a damn
She ended by stressing, “But I just don’t want y’all to think it was on me, they could have paid the fine, they could have respected y’all time, my time, and they didn’t give a damn!”
On what caused the disruption
She alleges that “@steynent as the promoter of the event refused to pay the JOC [Joint Operations Committee] so it messed up the whole show even though we were early.”
In addition, Summer Walker took it to Twitter (now X), she expressed her love and frustration…
“South Africa I love you guys so much. You guys were the best show. I wanted to do the full hour but the venue and SA police didn’t allow me to, it was not my fault. I love you guys I’ll be back soon
”
The chaos didn’t end at the venue—on social media, fans are dragging the organizers for how things were handled.
One person wrote: “How could summer walker Get 30 minutes that doesn’t make sense these promoters didn’t do justice they did her wrong @summerwalker..we stand with you,Steyn Entertainment messed up your performance !!”
Meanwhile, another added: “Oh !!! Thank you for pushing the set though– I really really wish you performed Unloyal, but it’s fine NEXT TIME!!. I’m embarrassed on behalf of these dumb promoters.”
Another person critiqued: “In the city gave us 20 minutes of summer Walker after paying R1200! Nxa I’m pissed“
