About the Rustenburg Municipality Mayoral Bursary 2026
The Rustenburg Municipality Mayoral Bursary Programme is designed to promote equal access to higher education by providing financial assistance to deserving students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Bursaries will be awarded for all fields of study, giving young people the opportunity to pursue qualifications that will help drive community development and local economic growth in the Rustenburg Local Municipal area.
This initiative forms part of the Municipality’s commitment to youth empowerment, transformation, and the development of future leaders in South Africa.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria before applying (failure to meet all requirements will result in disqualification):
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must reside within the Rustenburg Local Municipal area (in one of the 45 wards)
- Must be currently in Matric (Grade 12) or have completed Matric
- Must intend to study full-time in 2026
- Must be studying or provisionally accepted at a recognised tertiary institution in South Africa
- Preference will be given to students with excellent academic performance
- Must be previously disadvantaged or a youth living with a disability
Fields of Study
The bursary is open to students pursuing studies in any field, including but not limited to:
- Engineering
- Finance and Accounting
- Information Technology
- Education
- Health Sciences
- Law
- Agriculture
- Social Sciences
- Public Administration
- and other accredited qualifications at public tertiary institutions.

Step 1: Get the Application Form

Rustenburg Municipality, Missionary Mpheni House Building (Room 8, Ground Floor, Special Projects)
or from your Ward Councillor’s office.
Step 2: Prepare the Required Supporting Documents
Attach the following certified copies to your completed application form (compulsory):
- South African ID document
- Matric certificate or latest academic results
- Proof of admission or provisional acceptance at a tertiary institution (on institution’s letterhead)
- Proforma invoice from the tertiary institution (showing tuition, prescribed books, and accommodation fees – institution must have a valid Tax Clearance Certificate)
- Parents’ or guardians’ ID documents
- Parents’ or guardians’ proof of income (latest payslips, affidavit if unemployed, or pension slip if applicable)
- Proof of residence (municipal statement or affidavit)
