  • A protest march by human rights group Soil of Africa will take place on Monday in Pretoria, targeting the Department of Home Affairs over blocked ID documents.
  • The march will start at 09:00 from the Old Putco Depot and end at the Home Affairs Head Office around 14:00.
  • Several major streets will be closed, and motorists are advised to use alternative routes to avoid traffic delays.

Motorists in Pretoria are urged to prepare for traffic disruptions on Monday, as several major streets will be closed due to a protest march to the Department of Home Affairs.

The march, organised by human rights group Soil of Africa, aims to highlight the issue of South African citizens whose Identity Documents (IDs) have been blocked without valid reasons.

Human rights organisation Soil of Africa will on Monday, 6 October, head to the Department of Home Affairs in Pretoria to demand the unblocking of Identity Documents (IDs) that have been frozen without proper justification.

The marchers will assemble at the Old Putco Depot in Marabastad from 09:00 before proceeding to the Department’s Head Office in the city centre. Protesters are expected to disperse at around 14:00.

Due to the march, significant traffic delays and road closures are expected in parts of the Tshwane CBD. Motorists are urged to plan, use alternative routes, and exercise patience.

Affected streets include:

  • Struben Street
  • Kgosi Mampuru Street
  • Sophie de Bruyn Street
  • Bosman Street
  • Paul Kruger Street
  • Thabo Sehume Street
  • Johannes Ramokhoase Street

Suggested alternative routes:

  • Pretorius Street
  • Eskia Mphahlele Drive
  • Boom Street
  • Nelson Mandela Drive
  • Sisulu Street
  • Nana Sita Street
  • Francis Baard Street

Both Tshwane Metro Police and South African Police Service (SAPS) officers will be deployed to manage traffic flow and ensure safety along the affected routes.
