ActionSA’s decision to name Sizok’thola host Xolani Khumalo as its Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate for the 2026 local government elections has sparked strong reactions.
The anti-drug advocate’s appointment has been described as “strategic,” with some questioning his leadership capabilities while others believe he is the right person for the job.
Before stepping into the political spotlight, Khumalo built his public profile as a crime-fighting television host and community advocate.
WHO IS XOLANI KHUMALO?
Khumalo is best known as the host of the popular crime-fighting television show Sizok’thola, which gained widespread acclaim for its fearless approach to tackling South Africa’s drug crisis. The show documented high-profile drug busts across the country in an effort to expose and curb criminal activity.
Production of the hit series was temporarily halted following the death of a suspected drug dealer, Robert Varrie, during an incident linked to the show. Khumalo subsequently faced several charges, including murder, robbery, and malicious damage to property. These charges were later withdrawn pending further investigation.
Despite the controversy, Sizok’thola has since returned for its fourth season, with Khumalo once again at the helm, determined to continue his mission of combating drug-related crime.
Beyond television, Khumalo leads the Xolani Khumalo Foundation, a non-profit organisation dedicated to developing, informing, and promoting evidence-based crime prevention strategies. The foundation’s mission is to help build a drug- and crime-free society.
Working closely with government, law enforcement agencies, and community groups, the foundation aims to find practical solutions to reduce crime and create safer, more secure communities.
“People living in South Africa should feel safe and have no fear of crime. They should be safe at home, at school, and at work, and should enjoy an active community life free from fear. Women should walk freely in the streets, and children should be able to play safely outside,” said Khumalo.
ACTIONSA AND KHUMALO
Khumalo’s mission appears to align closely with ActionSA’s vision of building a safe and secure South Africa where criminals cannot act with impunity.
According to the party, Khumalo is well-suited to lead Ekurhuleni, as he was born and raised in Thembisa, has been recognised with the 365 Men of the Year Award, and has contributed to the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department’s anti-crime initiatives.
ActionSA stated: “He has expressed his commitment to fighting crime and ensuring that the rule of law prevails. Ekurhuleni residents, your time to FIX Gauteng’s industrial hub is in your hands.”
