Four killed in head-on crash on N2 near eMkhondo

Four people died in a head-on collision during an N2 crash between eMkhondo and Pongola on Sunday morning, 5 October 2025.

The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison reported that the crash involved a light delivery vehicle (LDV) and a sedan.

Three of the deceased, two men and a woman including the driver, were travelling in the sedan. Meanwhile, a female pedestrian was found near the LDV wreckage.

All four victims died at the scene.

FOUR KILLED, TWO INJURED IN N2 CRASH

The LDV driver and a child passenger suffered serious injuries. Emergency teams rushed them to a hospital in eMkhondo.

Authorities have launched an investigation, and they warned that reckless driving cannot be ruled out. Consequently, the road was temporarily closed to clear the wreckage.

MEC Macie URGES MOTORISTS TO STAY ALERT

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Macie, expressed condolences to the families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

“Motorists must stay alert on the road. Drivers must obey traffic rules and protect themselves and other road users,” Macie said.

Furthermore, he urged communities to report unsafe driving and unroadworthy vehicles to authorities.

MPUMALANGA’S ROAD SAFETY CHALLENGE

Fatal accidents continue to be an issue on major routes such as the N2 and N4. Therefore, road users are cautioned against speeding, reckless overtaking, and driving while tired.

The investigation into Sunday’s crash continues and further details will be released the next of kin has been notified.
