Omg, Greggs just opened a real pub called The Golden Flake and now I really want go

Britain’s most iconic bakery has just pulled off the ultimate glow-up – Greggs has opened a pub. Yes, you read that right: The Golden Flake Tavern is officially a thing, and it might just be the most brilliant mash-up of sausage rolls, steak bakes and pints we’ve ever seen.

Opening its doors at Fenwick Newcastle on the 27th September, the tavern promises “Greggs on tap,” literally. You can now wash down your Steak Bake with a perfectly poured pint of Greggs-inspired beer, because of course you can. And if you’re more of a cocktail girly, the menu has you covered. From the pink jammie fizz to a spiced caramel doughnut old fashioned, every cocktail is based off a Greggs classic, and I’m here for it.

It doesn’t stop at drinks. The food menu is basically your Greggs faves elevated. Think chicken bake parm, mac n cheese bites, and yum yum bread and butter puddings. Sundays come with a full Greggs carvery (yep, with steak bake centrepiece, Yorkshire puds, cauliflower cheese and gravy). This might the only carvery where a steak bake is considered fine dining.

Surprisingly, it actually still looks more like a pub and less like the inside of your town centre Greggs. Inside you’ll find Chesterfield sofas, a fireplace, a piano, frosted glass windows, Toby jugs and vintage Greggs photos, which are a nod to Newcastle, where the bakery first opened in 1951.

Of course, the classics haven’t been forgotten. You can still get a sausage roll (vegan or otherwise) with your pint, because what’s a Greggs without one?

“Following the reaction and success of our previous collaborations with Fenwick – Bistro by Greggs in 2023 and Greggs Champaign Bar last year – we’re thrilled to be launching our third landmark venture together,” says Greggs customer director Hannah Squirrel.

“The Golden Flake Tavern brings a fresh twist to the traditional pub experience, and we hope everyone who joined us before, along with many new faces, will come along to enjoy this unique Greggs experience.”

The Golden Flake Tavern is open daily from 11am to 7pm until February 2026. So if you’ve ever dreamt of dunking a sausage roll in your beer (no judgement), now’s your chance.
