He played the role of Rodney Trotter’s best pal and lovable rogue Mickey Pearce in the classic British series.

Sue Holderness, who played the role of Marlene Boyce, is among the first of the cast to pay tribute to the late actor.

Taking to X, Sue shared two snaps of Patrick and penned a touching caption.

She wrote: “R.I.P. darling Patrick. Much love.

“You will be greatly missed.”

Carol Challis, who lost her husband John Challis in 2021, also paid tribute.

John played the role of Marlene’s husband Boyce in the sitcom.

Carol sent a touching message to Patrick’s wife on social media, and shared an array of snaps of Patrick, also.

Captioning a sweet photo of Patrick with his wife and daughter, Carol wrote: “My condolences to Pat’s beloved wife Anong and their daughter Josie.”

Carol then referenced the sitcom’s late creator John Sullivan, who died after having viral pneumonia for six weeks in April 2011.

She said, “Sullivan loved Pat’s Mickey Pearce,” alongside some snaps of Patrick in character.

Fans have also paid tribute online, with one writing on X: “Thanks for the laughs Pat! Mickey Pearce was such an underrated and brilliant character! Condolences.”

Another said: “Terrible news. Such a fantastic character. Long live Mickey Pearce. Rest in peace, Pat.”

While a third penned: “Like many of the regular side characters, Mickey added depth to the show. A proper cockney geezer. RIP Patrick.”

Murray previously fought lung cancer before being given the all-clear in 2022 – however, a year later he revealed it had returned and spread to his legs and pelvis.

A rep confirmed he died in his sleep at 1.28am on Monday (September 29) surrounded by family and friends.

They added: “Patrick’s sharp comedic timing and unforgettable turn as Del Boy’s rakish mate made Mickey Pearce a fan favourite across generations.

“Beyond the screen, Patrick was a warm, generous presence who cherished meeting fans and remained immensely proud of his connection to the show.”

A BBC spokesperson said: “We are very sad to hear of the passing of Patrick Murray, much loved for his role as Mickey in Only Fools and Horses, our thoughts are with his friends and family.”

Murray was born in Greenwich, London, in 1956 – and he acted alongside the likes of Gary Oldman, Timothy Spall and Ray Winstone early in his career.

His filmography saw him appear in Scum and Quadrophenia – both in 1979, as well as Breaking Glass (1980), Curse of the Pink Panther (1983) and The Firm (1989).

Between 1983 and 2003, he played Mickey Pearce in Only Fools, appearing in 20 episodes.
