‘This can’t be real’: People are absolutely dragging Olly Murs for his wild new rap song

After a three-year break from music, Olly Murs has come back with a new song called Bonkers, and people across socials are absolutely dragging him for it.

Olly Murs is known for his upbeat pop songs, music your mum loves to listen to. He’s got some bangers, like Troublemaker and Heart Skips A Beat, which have hundreds and millions of streams. But the X Factor finalist has switched his sweet love songs for a rap track about how wild his life is, complete with a cringeworthy exaggerated Essex accent.

The 41-year-old started teasing Bonkers at the end of September. He posted a video of himself in the supermarket, matching poses with the cereal boxes and magazines he saw. In the comments, everyone was confused by his new sound.

“Olly, what were you thinking,” said one comment.

“This sounds like it would play in the background of a scene from the Minions movie,” said another.

Even his longtime supporters aren’t sure about this one.

“Olly, I can’t lie, I’m a hardcore fan and have been since I was like eight, but it’s getting harder and harder to defend you when you keep threatening to drop music like this,” said one user.

The singer seems to be leaning into the jokes. He playfully clapped back at the hate, posting a video replying to a comment making fun of his song. In the TikTok he put a dummy into his mouth and pretended to cry, then spat it out and stared angrily mouthing at the camera. This video has only made people make fun of the song even more.

Last month, he released another new song called Save Me with cockney rap duo Steve and Bass, who went viral on TikTok a few years ago for their old man rap. People seem to prefer this song over Bonkers, probably because they don’t have to listen to Olly Murs trying to rap.

Olly has just announced a new album coming out on November 21st called Knees Up. Hopefully the rest of the songs will go down better than Bonkers.
