8-hour power outage to affect 14 Johannesburg suburbs

An 8-hour power outage is set to affect 14 suburbs in Johannesburg.

The power outage will occur on Saturday, 8 November 2025, from 8:00 to 16:00.

City Power said that the power outage was necessary for maintenance work on their electricity network.

SUBURBS AFFECTED BY THE POWER OUTAGE

At Delta Substation, the power outage will occur on Saturday, 8 November 2025, from 8:00 to 16:00 in these areas:

  • Doornfontein South
  • Claim to Central Street
  • Beit and Boxton Street
  • Wolmarans Street (East)
  • Quartz to Catherine Street
  • Microwave Distributor 2 to Microwave Tower
  • Microwave Distributor 1 to Microwave Tower
  • Abel Road
  • Microwave Tower 3 and 4
  • Prospect Road to Selwood Place
  • Nugget and Blanket Street Standby
  • Seper Road corner Catherine Street
  • Nederburg Hotel corner Nugget and Leyds Street
  • Highpoint Joint to corner Quartz and Pretoria Street

“As the supply point may be restored at any time, customers are urged to always treat their electricity supply points as live. City Power regrets any inconvenience that may be caused by this interruption,” mentioned City Power.

SDC CONTINUES WITH METER AUDITS FOR BUSINESSES AND RESIDENCES IN JOHANNESBURG

The Inner-City Service Delivery Centre (SDC) continues with its meter audits for businesses and residential properties in Johannesburg.

The initiative aims to conduct comprehensive inspections and audits of meters throughout the inner city.

The programme, which began on 31 October 2025, will end on 11 November 2025.

Audits will be conducted in 18 areas, including Bellevue, Bellevue East, City and Suburban, Cleveland, Denver, Doornfontein, Droste Park, Ferreirasdorp, Jeppestown, Marshalltown, Malvern, Newtown, North Doornfontein, Observatory, Paarlshop, Westgate, Wolhuter and Yeoville.  

The power utility mentioned that customers who do not permit meter audits will face the disconnection of their electricity supply.

Additionally, a penalty exceeding R30 000 will be imposed for three-phase connections, alongside additional reconnection fees and penalties.
