Kaizer Chiefs superstar Gaston Sirino returns from suspension this weekend, and his vast CAF experience arrives at exactly the right moment as Amakhosi train for Egyptian giants Zamalek.
The veteran midfielder missed Sunday’s 2–1 defeat to Al Masry in Suez after picking up a one-match ban for accumulating three yellow cards.
GASTON SIRINO’S CAF EXPERIENCE FOR KAIZER CHIEFS
The 34-year-old Uruguayan’s return comes at a perfect time. Chiefs host Zamalek on Saturday afternoon at the Peter Mokaba Stadium (15:00 kick-off), with the Egyptians sitting second in Group C after their 1–0 win over Zesco United in Cairo.
It’s one of the toughest fixtures in the group. The White Knights have lifted the CAF Confederation Cup twice, in 2018/19 and again in 2023/24, and Kaizer Chiefs need every bit of experience they can get, which Sirino has plenty of.
During his time at Mamelodi Sundowns, the attacker carved out an impressive 10 goals and 11 assists in 48 CAF Champions League matches. Few players in the current Amakhosi squad can match that pedigree.
SLOW START TO 2025/26
Domestically, Sirino is slowly settling into life in Kaizer Chiefs colours. This season, he has one goal and two assists in 14 games so far, while last campaign, he produced four goals and six assists in 25 matches.
