Seventeen unroadworthy minibus taxis were impounded over the weekend in the City of Tshwane during a road safety operation conducted by the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) Public Transport Unit.

The operation, held in Hatfield and Eastlynne as part of Transport Month initiatives, targeted violations of the National Land Transport Act.

TMPD spokesperson Puleng Motholo emphasised that lawlessness among taxi operators will not be tolerated in the capital.

“The impoundment of these minibuses serves as a reminder to all operators and drivers that the TMPD will not tolerate any form of disregard for the law in our fight for road safety in the City of Tshwane,” Motholo said.

The operation forms part of a broader, ongoing campaign by TMPD focused on improving driver and vehicle fitness.

In a separate incident, the TMPD Tactical Unit recovered a stolen Ford Ranger Double Cab on Saturday, 4 October 2025. The vehicle had been reported stolen in Bronkhorstspruit.

Using tracking device data, officers traced the signal to Centurion and followed it to a residential property in Olivenhoutbosch. There, they found the vehicle fitted with false number plates.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
